PRESS RELEASE 6/28/2005
Summer Sizzles in
Stamford
Stamford, Connecticut. This summer $105,000.00 is the magic number at Braswells
Stamford Auction. The second session of featured art from a prominent family of
collectors, sold June 26 included a surprising oil on canvas. The canvas measuring
64 x 39, depicting a young Balinese girl dancing was signed indistinctly with
over painting on the signature. With active bidders narrowing after $40,000 to a single
telephone bidder and a bidder on the floor, the painting finally sold for $105,000 to the
floor bidder. Lightning struck twice two weeks later when on Sunday July 10th a rare
Gustav Stickley oak cupboard top sideboard, estimated $40,000.00-$60,000.00 hammered for
$105,000.00, realizing a total price of $120,750.00. The bidding starting at $15,000
quickly proceeded to $70,000, where it narrowed to two phone bidders. One of these bidders
was representing a NYC client while the winning bidder was an unnamed but established
collector. A third session of art from the same estate will be offered in the fall.
Stamford Auction holds auctions every other Tuesday featuring decorative and antique
estate properties. The next auction will be a two day sale on August 1st and 2nd. Check
